Alexander is a third year PhD student working jointly with Drs Mark Matthews and Larry Williams. His project involves the evaluation of various physiological responses (yield and yield components, fruit growth and composition, and vegetative growth) across many wine grape cultivars grown under water deficits.

One of the few producers to make classic wines in both the old and new worlds, Christian Moueix is President of Etablissements Jean-Pierre Moueix, the leading wine company of Bordeaux’s Right Bank, and owner of Dominus Estate in the Napa Valley. In 2008, he was named both a Legend of Wine by the James Beard Foundation in New York City and Man of the Year by Decanter Magazine in London. In 2011, Christian was awarded Wine Spectator’s Distinguished Service Award.

Gary is a Resource Specialist with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Over 19 years at MWD he has worked on State Water Project /San Francisco Bay-Sacramento Delta issues, Southern California local water resources development, and water conservation. Gary managed Metropolitan’s Regional Water Conservation Rebate Programs “Save Water, Save A Buck” and “SoCal Water$mart” for six years, and recently took over metropolitan’s pay-for-performance “Water Savings Incentive Program.” Gary holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from UC Berkeley and he obtained a Master’s degree in Geography from UCLA, working in fluvial geomorphology, climatology, and water budgeting.

Gregory V. Jones is the Director of Wine Education and a professor and research climatologist in the Department of Environmental Studies at Linfield College. Professor Jones specializes in the study of climate structure and suitability for viticulture, and how climate variability and change influence grapevine growth, wine production and quality. He conducts applied research for the grape and wine industry in Oregon and many regions worldwide and has given hundreds of international, national, and regional presentations on climate and wine-related research. He is the author of numerous book chapters and other reports and articles on wine economics, grapevine phenology, site assessment methods for viticulture, climatological assessments of viticultural potential, and climate variability and change impacts on wine production.

Dr. Letaief joined the Department of Viticulture and Enology in August 2013 as an assistant professor of enology. Prior to that, she was an assistant professor at ESIAT in Tunisia where she taught enology, brewery, and sensory analysis at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Hend has a Wine industry oriented research experience with a focused attention on the processes of problem solving and quality improvement. She works on developing novel strategies to relate grape quality to the process: identification of new indicators of grape quality for application in the winery, and planning and managing the process accordingly.

Dr. Laurent Deluc is Assistant Professor at Oregon State University. He did his Ph.D in France at the University of Bordeaux working on the molecular regulation of polyphenols in grape. In 2005, he was offered a position as postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Nevada, Reno where he developed a transcriptomic approach to understand the impact of water deficit on grape berry composition. He joined OSU in 2009 His major research focuses on the influence of genetic and environmental factors on grape berry development using "omics" technology.

Dr Martín Mendez possess a BSc degree in horticulture from the National University of Uruguay, a MSc degree in viticulture from The University of California, Davis, USA and a PhD degree also in viticulture from The University of Adelaide, Adelaide, Australia. Doctor Mendez is currently the manager of the GIS and Remote Sensing group in the department of Wine and Grape Supply at E&J Gallo Winery, focusing on water, environmental, and precision farming related issues.

Co-Founder of the Vintage Report, Thibaut brings his scientific expertise in viticulture and enology to the organization. He conceived the concept of the Vintage Report series to foster technical discussions around vintage effect while being respectful of local wine growing conditions. Throughout his scientific career, he has been exposed to numerous scientific and technical experts who imparted on him a desire to always learn more on the relationship between environmental stresses, vine and fruit physiological responses and its impact on wine quality. Having lived for 20 years in California Thibaut became inspired by the culture of open mindedness, clear communication and the power of social media to disseminate knowledge. Thibaut’s hope is that the Vintage report Series will continue to grow and contribute to disseminating reliable information within the wine industry. Ultimately, his objective is to benefit environmental resource management and help preserve the uniqueness of place and season as reflected by wine taste.

Walt Mahaffee is a research plant pathologist with USDA-Agricultural Research Service Horticulture Crops Research Unit in Corvallis, OR, and Courtesy Associate Professor with the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology at Oregon State University. His group’s research focuses on microbial ecology of plant surfaces and developing sustainable plant disease management practices.
